| Frame Shop Art Gallery & Gifts has been serving the Holland area, greater Toledo, Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan since 2004. Member of PPFA / Professional Picture Framers Association
John Barlowe, owner and PPFA award winning picture framer is a lifelong resident of Toledo and the former owner of Triangle Kitchen Centers Inc. His artistic creativity was evidenced in the thousands of beautiful kitchens that he designed and installed over the years. As an artist and designer he now enjoys the creative outlet of helping his clients to select the best possible framing choice for their artwork or treasured family photos or heirlooms. His cabinet making skills are evidenced in the quality workmanship he brings to frame making. PPFA launches Consumer Awareness Committee PPFA has launched a Consumer Awareness Committee to raise the profile of the custom picture framing industry and help PPFA members attract customers. Mary Fender, MCPF, GCF, Frame Nation, Richmond, Va., will chair the new committee. “I’m so excited about what we’ll be able to do, and I know we’ll accomplish much as we formulate the plans to create a framing buzz worldwide and locally,” she says. Members of this international committee are: John Barlowe, Frame Shop Art Gallery & Gifts,
Holland, Ohio; Kirstie Bennett, The Framer’s Workshop, Berkeley, Calif.; Gary Blitsch, Framewoods of Topeka/SouthWind Gallery, Topeka, Kan.; Jared Davis, MCPF, GCF,
Megawood Mouldings, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia; Karla Elder, CPF, GCF, Jackson’s Extraordinary Custom Framing, Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada; Lynn Fey-Duncan, Larson- Juhl, Norcross, Ga.; Karen Haden, EAZE Custom Framing Inc., Nashville, Tenn.; Mikki Kavich, CPF, Mikki’s Frame Shop, Crossville, Tenn.; and Paul Thomas, Lifesaver Software Inc., Holly Springs, Ga. Stuart Altschuler, CPF, GCF, Prestige Framing Academy, Woburn, Mass., a director on the PPFA board, will serve as board liaison. Sheila Pursglove will serve as PPFA staff liaison. The Consumer Awareness Committee is the brainchild of PPFA president Ken Link, CPF, Picture This & More, Alton, Ill. “Finding ways to educate consumers on custom framing and drive them to member stores has been a priority PPFA initiative for several years,” Link says. “The recent economic downturn has continued to heighten the need to help PPFA member stores draw customers – new and repeat – often as a means for survival. “The emergence of social media has potentially opened avenues to reach the consumer marketplace quickly, inexpensively, and with a recurring message that can be broadly distributed through the consumer network as a means to reach our potential consumer base, providing awareness and information about custom framing and the advantages of using PPFA member shops. “The use of grassroots traditional media also will be explored to ensure PPFA members get the broadest consumer awareness possible.” If you have suggestions for the committee, email spursglove@pmai.org. u

A question often asked, is "how do your prices compare with the Big Box Craft Store?" We like to remind our customers, that since they are dealing with a custom product, there are no such things as list prices, so it is really hard to compare one framer to another. We find that our every day prices for the exact same design and materials are very close or often times lower than the Big Stores, so-called Sale Price! When a store has a coupon sale almost every week of the year, the sale price, really is their everyday price and it really is misleading the public and giving the impression that they have the lowest prices in town. Most consumers today are too smart to fall for that "Always on Sale" tactic. We invite you to shop and compare. We promise you won't be disappointed with our quality and service.
Our pledge and our goal is always to satisfy the needs of our customer.
